Recovery gear is an important, oft-overlooked aspect of winter driving. Buying a Unimog is a good starting point. If one is not available locally, a Pinzgauer will suffice.

Unimog is great but If snow's over 50 cm's I'd rather use an MB-trac (if you're limited to the Mercedes-family):
